Universal Studios Singapore, which opens early next year, will be the home to the first theme park attraction based on DreamWorks Animation movie property "Madagascar."
The Southeast Asia park, located on the island of Sentosa as part of a $4.2 billion Resorts World property, also will boast a Far Far Away Castle, a landmark in DWA's "Shrek" pic series. The 130-foot-tall castle, where King Harold lives, will house attractions such as Shrek 4-D, Donkey Live and Magic Potion Spin, Universal Studios announced Wednesday.
Madagascar: A Crate Adventure will be an indoor boat ride featuring animated figures, digital projection, special effects and a bubbling volcanic cauldron.
"These iconic animated characters promise to be another crown jewel in our collection of world-class rides and shows based on blockbuster movies that are loved by the entire family," said Tom Williams, chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts.
The two animated "Madagascar" films, featuring the voices of Ben Stiller and Chris Rock, have raked in more than $1.1 billion at the global boxoffice. A third film is planned for 2012, and the property has spread to TV and video games.
In addition to the Universal theme park, the 5 million square-foot Resorts World Singapore also will have a Marine Life Park, six hotels, shopping, an ESPA spa, conference and meeting facilities and an animatronic "Crane Dance" performance on the waterfront.
Universal also is planning a theme park for Dubai in 2012. -source

Uniquely Singapore takes centre stage
World-Class Attractions, Entertainment and Events Gain International Attention
Summer has turned up the heat on Singapore - and the fun continues into 2010! Blue skies, tropical weather, incredible shopping and international-calibre attractions keep Hong Kong visitors coming back for more, and with a host of exciting entertainment on the horizon, Singapore remains the destination of choice for Asia.
Summer in Singapore Sees Double-Digit Arrivals Growth
Summer promotions, the now-famous Great Singapore Sale and special deals on airfare and hotel stays led to double-digit tourism growth in July and August 2009 compared to the same months last year. There was an 18.2% rise in visitor arrivals from Hong Kong in July and a 34.7% rise in August. ?And this month, as the host to the 2009 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, Singapore has caught Hong Kong's eye once again. As of August, Hong Kong ranks fourth by geographic area for the number of F1 tickets sold, demonstrating just how successful and popular this event has become.
Travel news is where the excitement begins in Singapore, and its official airline, Singapore Airlines was the first in Asia to launch the Boeing A380. After much anticipation, on 9 July 2009 the new plane was unveiled. What's more, routes have been so popular that loading has been at over 90% on all classes.
In collaboration with travel partners here in Hong Kong, travellers were offered exclusive opportunities to get the most out of their holidays. Flights on Cathay Pacific Airways and Singapore Airlines, value-added services, deals for the family, entry to a wide variety of attractions, and even long-stay packages that include serviced apartments were all part of this campaign.
The sights and sounds of Singapore were alive this summer, with fun for the entire family. "Uniquely Family Fun 2+2", available to visitors from Greater China, included popular attractions like the Singapore Flyer, the Singapore Zoo, the Night Safari, and more. With the purchase of two adult tickets, two children 12 or under enjoyed admission for free.
The Excitement Continues in Singapore
FUEL Festival
In conjunction with this month's F1 race - the only night race on the FORMULA 1 Grand Prix calendar - from September 24 to 27, FUEL Festival will bring an international, star-studded line-up of musicians, DJs, singers and performers. Four all-night parties at two incredible venues will rock Singapore like never before.
LCX Shopping Rewards
This fall, from mid-September to mid-November, Singapore Airlines Holidays has partnered with Hong Kong retail mall LCX to offer shoppers a uniquely Singapore holiday. Spend HK$250 at LCX shops to receive one stamp, and collect between 8 and 100 stamps for various travel redemption opportunities - from a HK$500 voucher for travel to two free round trip tickets to Singapore on an A380.
Sail through Southeast Asia
Singapore Airlines Holidays and Royal Caribbean Cruises present an opportunity to sail the high seas in style. The 'Legend of the Sea' sails in Nov 09 -Jan 10 from Singapore to visit some of the most beautiful destinations in Southeast Asia . Book early for exceptional deals with SIA Holidays' fly and cruise packages.
Holiday Parties Heat Up in December
Christmas and the New Year bring reasons to celebrate, and plenty of reasons to visit Singapore! The ninth annual ZoukOut 2009 is a dance music festival like no other. Channel the spirit of Ibiza in Singapore on December 12, 2009 and party through the night.
Coinciding with the festive theme, Christmas in the Tropics presents various celebrations in Singapore from 7 November to 3 January, 2010. In addition, there will be a week-long festival of music, family, cultural celebrations and special programmes along Orchard Road from December 18 through 25. Singapore will be alive with the spirit of Christmas as it is celebrated by different people all over the world.
Happy New Year!
2010 brings the much anticipated opening of the Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World at Sentosa. ?Relax on the beach, dine at any number of gourmet restaurants, shop, play, or visit Southeast Asia's first movie theme park - Universal Studios Singapore.
